LIFE IN WEST AFRICA

The country of Mali is landlocked, meaning it has no coastline and is entirely surrounded by land, in fact, 65% of the area is total or semi-desert. The population, which nearly half live in extreme poverty, depend on underground water supplies to live their day-to-day life. Most Mali residents are in agriculture, making their need for water even more imperative as it's tied to their income and livelihood. The life expectancy of a Mali resident is 59 as of 2019, and this is tied to the poor supply of water that is either extremely hard to get to or extremely difficult.

Many of the country's communities lack basic necessities for a healthy life. Most children do not attend school, there is no electricity, running water or proper amenities to what is often single family huts across villages. Villages receive much little support from the government, and economically generates not much inconce from its native businesses. Though the land is rich in its natural materials, the most important aspect of the beautiful country-- its people, are in need of support.
